Trail starts at Cucharas Pass, just south of Cuchara and La Veta on Rt. 12. There is a parking area on the northwest side of the road, accessible even in winter.
In the summer this is a forestry road. In the winter it is unmaintained making it great for snowshoeing. The grade is gentle. There was no one else there, nor did it look like there had been for some time.
