This snowshoeing expedition was a training for the GCC races taking place on March 8, 2020.
The trail started from Mount Sunnine's base next to the restaurant area and went up a steep hill (like climbing up a vertical wall) for an ascent of 900+ meters. Once the slope was overcame, the trail continued to the Sunnine Cross where we had a snack break and then trail back to where we started.
On the way up the slope, the snow was still hard which worked to our advantage and the snowshoes did not sink. Despite this, the 900-meter ascent took us almost 1.5 hours. The trail to the cross was fairly moderate except for climbing the hill to the cross. The way back was as difficult; especially navigating the descent of the slope; again, the weather worked to our advantage; the snow was soft and had to take off the snowshoes to make our descent.
This was a very very difficult hike and don't recommend it unless you are physically fit and expert in mountain climbing.
The views were, like anywhere you go in Lebanon, breathtaking.
