Shreshtasar mountain ( Շրեշտասար ) is a peak in Vayots Dzor region with the height of 2098 meters, near Yelpin village ( Ելփին ), Armenia.
This is one of those conspicuous peaks that we can see from the highway.
The name "Shreshtasar" comes from the herb name "Shresht" - Eremuarm which grows a lot in this area. So literally it is translated as "Eramuarm (Shresht) mountain (sar)".
This is an edible pot - herb very common for this region.
Some information about the trail:
--- I've hiked Shreshtasar several times, though it does not seem like a challenging peak, but the way to the summit is very rocky and you should be careful while choosing it.
--- We started our hike from Yelpin village and took the gravel road first. That part of the trail you can reach both by vehicle and on foot.
--- When we get closer to the peak, we stopped following the road and changed our direction to the summit.
--- The summit of the mountain is not visible till the last moment, so it's behind the peaks we can see on the way and in the pictures here.
--- The way back is smoother and better than the way up, so I'll recommend taking this for climbing up. Here we avoided climbing rocks close to the peak.
--- SEASON: Season here starts from April and lasts till December if you are not into snow hikes. The most greenery months are May and June, which are also the best ones for this peak (especially May).
After July it's too hot here till the end of October.
--- Shreshtasar is surrounded with fantastic peaks of Vayots Dzor province, and during this trail you are going to have stunning views of the Karkatar, Gndasar and Mjkatar mountain ranges ( Քարկատար, Գնդասար, Մժկատար ).
