邻近 El Tablado, Canarias (España)

Park in the large carpark at Roque del Faro. This route takes in 3 calderas in the westerly loop section, and it is a magical place. The route from the start follows an easy undulating path on pine needles and needs no further description.

The route from Zarza Park needs care as it is easy to be stranded on the wrong side of the barranco (ravine). In particular, you need to take care to come off the PR9 shortly after the second caldera. No way point marked, but you can see it clearly where I retraced the trail close to the northerly most point of the route. Leave the PR9 at this point and take the trail which has a clear X marked on it. This does not mean "no entry" but just that it is NOT the PR9.

It had been our intention to return to the car by retracing our route from Zarza Park, but as we reached the road at the point where we had cut off a bend at La Mata, miraculously the local bus rolled up, and it being late on a January afternoon we weakened. A 3 mile retracement of our earlier steps, or get back to our hotel in time for a G&T before dinner. Tricky decision! None of this takes away the merits of the route. It's a great day out.
