Arrive before sunrise to experience a serene sunrise at Pico do Areiro. There are 2 parking lots - one is farther away. If you are driving from Funchal, then be wary of the GPS directions as it will yake you through some extremely steep climbs that are unsuitable for low-end saloon cars. Use the ER103 to reach the starting point.

The trail is extremely scenic and doesn't involve technicals. However, there are many steep climbs. Note that this is a well laid out trail with railings for almost 90% of the track.

In April, mid week, the hiking traffic is super high, and this requires a lot of stop and pass for oncoming fellow hikers. Recommended to carry hiking poles and plenty of water. Mobile network works across the trail. Note that it gets super hot by 10.30-11.00am.
