We started at the main trail signpost at the bottom of the Calvari passageway. Follow the passageway up the hill and past the small cemetery on your left. You will be following the yellow and white waymarked signs on this route, go over the bridge over the river and you will see the first sign post, directing you to follow the trail to the left.
After about 300mtr you will come to the second sign post. You have a choice of following this route clockwise or anticlockwise. We chose anticlockwise. Following the track to the right, which takes you on a good wide track all the way up the hill with great views behind and to your right.
You will then come to the third sign post which takes you to the left onto a small footpath. Again, just follow this all the way to the next sign and you will be following the track to the left. You will have great views to your front over the ravine and behind you back down the path to Pego. You will pass a large buttress on your left, and eventually come to an old ruined farmstead with the Cova Negra in front of you. You could deviate and explore the cave then come back onto the main track again.
Follow the track slightly downhill and keeping left at the signpost for Barranc de la Canal and Figueteta. Follow the track up and behind the hill on your left . You will then come to the junction for the refuge Mirador de la Figuetera, going up to your right and Barranco de las coves to your left. Worth a visit to the refuge and then return to the same junction and follow the track down hill. At this point the track to Barranco de las Coves is fine, and the waymarkers are now green and white. However, after about 500mtr you will be walking on loose scree, which is very slippery underfoot. The track then gets steeper as you descend into the head of the revive. This can be very dangerous if you don't have a head for heights and with loose footing for the next kilometre, can really put people off.
Once you follow the track down to the mouth of the revive, you will come across a small stone well and dam with stone steps. You will then be on a wide farmer's track which you follow all the way down hill back to the junction where you made your choice to go clockwise or anticlockwise.
This will eventually return you back to Pego, in time for a cold beer at one of the cafes on the Font.
When I do this route again, I will go clockwise so that I'm facing the loose scree going up the Barranco de las Coves. Or go up to the refuge anticlockwise and return via the same path.
