Everyone loves the 2.8km (return) walk to the top of Mt Ngungun (253m) as the views are superb, especially at sunrise and set. But if its not challenging enough, you can enhance the hike by circling the base (anticlockwise) and ascending via the western slope. Not only does it increase the walk to 4km but it adds a little more challange to your trek. Park on Fullerton Rd, walk 20m along the main trail and take the fire trail to the right through the bush and head east. About 500m along you will pass the old gravel quarry. Its a "No Entry" area but you can peak through the fence as its an interesting spot. A further 1km along the fire trail, you will notice a small trail off to the left which will take you to the rocky base of Ngungun. A 30m further around to the west you can climb the rock slope and slowly make your way up to the western plateau. Take care on this section as its steep and there is a significant drop off to the side. There should be pink tags to help you navigate this track. Eventually you will reach the summit where the main tourist track finishes. The views here are sensational, taking in most of the Glasshouse Mountains and the coastline from Caloundra to Bribie. Now for the easy part, follow the tourist track down to the car park whilst keeping an eye out for Daymans Cave along the way. Gratefull for have had found a circular circuit in Mt Ngungun, howeever it ended up being much more dangerous than expected. This is a headsup as there are some parts that are sleepery and nothing but rocks. Really so sleepery and can end up being deadlyfalls
