Ticking off another hike from the list :)
Although this hike was on the strenous side, it was quite enjoyable.
The weather was quite good all day with a clear sky.
As per trail conditions; the elevation change is gradual for the section between Mount Leonard and Donnelly's Weir, except the last 1.5 km where it is steep.
The circuit merges to Monda Road after Mt. Leonard summit and follows the road for a while, then separates from it and merges again later. This section was longer than I was expecting (around 7 km) and if you are not a big fan of hiking on 4wd roads, you may get bored. However thanks to the mountain Ash trees and ferns, the section looks pretty and interesting.
Next is Condons trail. The vegetation on this trail was quite overgrown and the descent was a bit tiring due to mud and slippery conditions.
Finally the circuit merges with Rd-21 and 17, and finishes at Donnelly's Weir.
Couple of suggestions if you are planning to do this hike in winter:
- Bring your gaiters (they were handy on Condons trail)
- Start early to enjoy the variety of vegetation on the north and east side of the trail, with a more leisurely pace.
