A beautiful hike through the fascinating Tuscia landscape, with its tufa rocks, small and bigger streams, and signs of ancient civilization more than three millennia ago. You'll also walk on the slope where once was the track of the Civitavecchia - Capranica railway.
Two remarks:
- most of the hike is relatively easy, but the descent from Luni to the railway bridge can be a bit tricky.
- we parked the car relatively near the road. If you have a four wheel drive high on its tires, you might want to try parking your car a little bit further up the dirt road.

Crossing. We went straight ahead. On the way back, we came from the abandoned railway and wanted to continue to the Mignone river. We had to abort our descent to the river because there was too much mud

Outer walls Luni

Ruins of the outer walls of the Luni settlement, which dates from the 16th till the 11th century B.C. That period is called the Middle to Late Bronze Age.

Ruïnes

You have to look good to see it on the picture, but here are the ruins of a house that was partly underground.

Ruïnes

According to a plaque near this excavation, these are the remains of the most ancient monumental building in central Italy, dating back to the twelfth century BC. The building was partly dug into the soft tufa rock floor. It was probably also used for religious functions. Ages later, it was converted into a christian church.

Difficult 20 metres

Not very difficult descent over rocks, but risky. Don't do this when the stones are wet. Don't do this with little children. Some metres ahead, there is another descent, hard. We only found it when we arrived at the stairs leading down to the bridge.
