行程描述

The hike is moderate but considering the altitude, remoteness, temperatures, etc., I think you should have experience as a hiker. I found it strenuous at times with the high altitude. I have no experience with high alpine hiking.

My wife and I did it without a guide. The trail isn't marked except for some cairns in some places but there are lots of shepherd tracks you can easily follow. I recommend using the app, Maps.Me, which has the trails on it. Caravanistan recommends this map: https://www.amazon.com/Mountains-guide-Executive-Wilderness-Programmes/dp/0906227569/?tag=cara051-20 but I bought a different paper map at Artuch Alplager Hotel & Restaurant, which was adequate.

Check out this chick's blog (https://adventuresoflilnicki.com/fann-mountains-guide/). The route we took is discussed in some detail.

It took us six days, five nights. Our camp sites listed below. I recommend staying a night at Mutnyi Lake because it's 3,500m and helps you acclimatise for the 4,500m camp site. But there are other ways to do it too. Someone recommended two nights at Alauddin Lakes and do a day hike loop to the north of Alauddin Lakes while you stay there, but the altitude is only 3,000m there and I reckon it would make the subsequent days quite long. Either way, think about giving yourself enough time to acclimatise as you approach Chimtarga Pass.

First night: Dushokha (Chimtarga) Lake
Second night: Alauddin (Chapdara Lake)
Third night: Mutnyi Lake
Fourth night: 4500 Meter Camp (39°11′21.6″N 68°12′19.47″E)
Fifth night: Alo (Bolshoi Allo) Lake

It was below 0°C at night on the third and fourth night (hiking in late Sep).

There was water available at all our camp sites but, depending on the temperature at the 4,500m campsite, you might need to melt snow/ice.

To get to the trail head, we took a private car from Dushanbe to Artuch Alplager Hotel & Restaurant (the car can be arranged by them - Альпинистская туристическая база «Артуч»

https://maps.app.goo.gl/MhdyDqgZBybucS7P8), which is 8.3km past Artuch village. They also arranged for the pick-up car at the end.

Be careful around the shepherds. They have dogs to protect the flocks from wolves and those dogs mean business.

Warning: on the third day, we passed some shepherds (the only day where we saw other people). During the night, one of them came and stole our only cooking pot, which we'd left away from the tent under some rocks because it still had food in it and we didn't want to attract animals to our tent in the night. The guy knew we would be camped there and he came looking for stuff he could steal. I don't know what kind of low life scum bag steals something like that but it could have been serious. We were three days' walk from civilisation. Luckily we had a Steripen and could treat the water without having to boil it, but it made meals considerably less appetising for the remaining nights. If you see a guy with about a dozen donkeys and a Sea to Summit cooking pot, punch him in the dick from me.

The map I bought from Artuch Alplager Hotel & Restaurant has Siriob Mountains written across the the range we were hiking across. Perhaps it's not the correct name.
