Birdwatching in Debe.

The islands of Trinidad and Tobago has a total (recorded) of 470 bird species. This trail will expose you to some of them. This bird watching excursion starts at the corner of Ghandi Village Road and Debe Trace at 10.20170°N and -61.45920°W. Traverse heading 274° along Ghandi Village Road until the junction located at 10.20879°N and -61.46070°W. Turn heading 300° along this partially paved road. I think that this trace is called Dwarika Avenue but it is largely a private thoroughfare. Additionally, there are a lot of loose dogs that prowl this stretch of roadway so be aware.
Follow along this road until the intersection at 10.20691°N and -61.46325°W. Turn heading 328° at this point. This road is largely unpaved and dirt. On both sides of this road there are lush agricultural fields. Keep an eye out of hawks and kites along here. I saw the Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture (Cathartes burrovianus), Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus), and the Yellow-headed Caracara (Milvago chimachima).
There is a wooden bridge located at 10.20875°N and -61.46502°W. Under this bridge along the riverbank you’d see quite a few birds feeding. I saw the Pied Water Tyrant (Fluvicola pica), Northern Waterthrush (Parkesia noveboracensis), Male White-headed Marsh Tyrant (Arundinicola leucocephala), and the Little Blue Heron (Egretta caeruela). Cross this bridge and continue heading 44° along the dirt trail starting 10.20885°N and -61.46502°W. This trail leads along the riverbank. Along here I saw the Limpkin (Aramus guarauna), Common Waxbill (Estrilda astrild), Wattled Jacana (Jacana jacana), Striated Heron (Butorides striata), Tropical Kingbird (Tyrannus melancholicus), Red-breasted Blackbird (Sturnella militaris), Yellow-hooded Blackbird (Chrysomus icterocephalus), and many others.
After this excursion you continue along the dirt road until the junction of Dwarika Trace and Debe Trace located at 10.20421°N and -61.46143°W. Turn 41° heading along Debe Trace to get back to where this walking trail started.
