The walk starts off from the mostly urban area of Alexandra. First stop is a mostly undiscovered small patch of greenery behind the ubiquitous car show rooms; it's named the Rumah Tinggi Eco Park and is an example of bioretention swale. The lush greenery is a perfect counterpoint to the urban desert around. We then backtrack slightly and cross Alexandra road to meader down the Alexandra Park Connector as far as Tanglin Road. From here, we turn northwards until Ridley Park, where the well-heeled reside. Deeper into the estate, we emerge into the Dempsey Hill area, where the well-heeled eat. Winding down the hill, we turn right on to Holland Road until we enter the Botanic Gardens, where the well-heeled play (starting to see a trend here?). Heading north through Botanic Gardens with nary a detour, we emerge near Botanic Gardens MRT and turn right along the busy Bukit Timah road, then head northwards along Kheam Hock road to view NParks latest take on greening: nature ways. At Kheam Hock "park", we join the coast-to-coast trail and head northwards to cross the new Lornie Highway. The old Lornie road is now one of the newest nature ways, still young, but with promise for the future. With some relief, we dodge into MacRitchie and the boardwalks, to join the hoi-polloi at play. A long but unusual walk, methinks.
