An easy walk along the main track to historic Koremash village. You can drive all the way to the village but it's nicer to park at the scenic viewpoint where this walk starts and then stroll the 7km to the village.
The history of the village is described it in the Bradt Travel Guide and in 21 Day Trips from Addis Ababa. Negus Haile Melakot, the father of Menelik II, chose this site for his stronghold and ammunition dump, and Menelik used it as his armoury until the turn of the 20th century. The same compound was used by the Italians in the 1930s as an administrative and military centre, Fortino Bottega.
You can walk through the compound and look in the old stores with lofts to store weapons, and at the far end enjoy a picnic whilst looking across the deep valley below.
